Lymerix

Notice: As of February 25, 2002 the manufacturer announced that the LYMErix™ Lyme disease vaccine will no longer be commercially available.

Lymerix is a vaccine that can help you from becoming infected with the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. It is approved for use in people between 15 and 70 years of age and should be considered for use in people that live in, or travel to, areas at high risk for Lyme disease. It is not necessary to receive the Lyme disease vaccine if you are not in a high risk area. Vaccination includes receiving three doses, two doses one month apart and a booster dose twelve months after the first dose.

You should not receive the vaccine if you are under age fifteen, have had an allergic reaction to a previous dose of lyme vaccine, are pregnant, have an immune system problem or if you have arthritis caused by a previous case of Lyme disease.

Mild problems and side effects that can occur after receiving the Lyme disease vaccine include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given, muscle aches, joint pain, fever, or chills.
