Although carving a pumpkin for Halloween is the more traditional way to go, there are plenty of downsides, including the mess, risk of getting cut, and the fact that the pumpkin will probably end up moldy well before Halloween.
Painting a pumpkin can be a nice alternative to pumpkin carving, especially for younger kids.
You can use dry erase markers to make a pattern and then paint your pumpkin.
If you apply a paint sealer before and after you paint your pumpkin, it might last even longer.
You don't even have to paint a pumpkin... Painting a rock to make it look like a pumpkin or ghost can be another fun project for you and your kids.
