Editorial Review:

When your child isn't sleeping, chances are that you aren't either. Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems--a tired parent's essential for more than 10 years--offers valuable advice and concrete help when lullabies aren't enough to lull your child into dreamland. Based on Ferber's research as the director of Boston's Center for Pediatric Sleep Disorders at Children's Hospital, the book is a practical, easy-to-understand guide to common sleeping problems for children ages one to six. Detailed case histories on night waking, difficulty sleeping, and more serious disorders such as sleep apnea and sleepwalking help illustrate a wide variety of problems and their solutions. New parents will benefit from Ferber's proactive advice on developing good sleeping patterns and daily schedules to ensure that sleeping problems don't develop in the first place. You'll also find a bibliography of children's books on bedtime, sleep, and dreaming, as well as a list of helpful organizations. Here's a book that is sure to put you and your whole family to sleep--in this case, that's a good thing.

  • Incredibly unimaginative & it made things worse
I can't believe this guy is in charge of pediatric sleep disorders and the best thing he can come up with is making babies cry themselves to sleep!! I read many of the other poor reviews about this book prior to purchasing it but decided to get it anyway. My daughter is 5 months old and is intelligent, alert, and very happy. However, she has had trouble falling to sleep and staying asleep since she was 4 days old. After trying Dr. Ferber's method for a week (she did fall asleep eventually after crying) her... more info

  • Unfairly reviewed, but has some good advice
After reading some of the reviews featured on this web page, anyone thinking of buying this book might think it was nothing more than one long essay justifying the emotional neglect of children. That is an unfair picture of this book. The information here is the result of years of research by a respected sleep specialist, who seems to have a real liking and affection for children, and a sincere concern for their well-being.

I certainly understand why some parents disagree with Dr. Ferber regarding... more info

  • Don't know what I did without it!
When my son was an infant, he too would want to fall asleep with bottle. A friend lent me to this book and after a little hesitation, I tried. My husband was sure it wouldn't work. I was adamant I was at least going to try. Being a first time mom, I must say the first night wasn't easy (for the parents)but the next night was easier and within 3 nights my son was going to sleep easier and staying asleep all night! I have had to reapply the philosophies from time to time when my son had developed more bad... more info
