| Elbow injuries can be serious and your child should be seen by his doctor if he injures his elbow. The elbow can be injured by its bones being fractured, especially after a fall. This can be a medical emergency and you should quickly seek treatment.
More commonly, an elbow injury results from a nursemaids elbow, in which a ligament can be trapped after your child's arm is pulled. With this injury, your child will hold his arm close to his body and he will be unable to use it. The elbow shouldn't hurt though. A nursemaid's elbow can be reduced by your doctor and causes no lasting problems.
