Febrile Seizures

Some children aged six months to five years can have a seizure when they get a fever that rises quickly. This type of seizure is usually brief and last only three to four minutes and they cause no permanent damage.

Children who have a febrile seizure are at risk to have another one whenever they get a high fever, so you should begin aggressive treatment of their fevers with acetaminophen , ibuprofen and/or a lukewarm bath. Treatment for children with febrile seizures, even if they have more than one, is usually not necessary.

You should call your doctor immediately if your child has a febrile seizure.
