| Choking |
| Choking commonly occurs in children because of how small their windpipe is. If your child is choking on something, but is able to talk or cough, then he is likely to recover on his own. If he is unable to cough, talk or if he is turning blue, then he is not getting any air to his lungs and you will need to intervene right away. Activate your local emergency services. In older children you can perform the Heimlich Maneuver, but this can not be done in infants under one year of age, who require a different intervention.
You should consider learning CPR so that you can perform these maneuvers if it ever should become necessary.
