| This vaccine protects against infection with tetanus and diphtheria. It is a booster vaccine given at your child's twelfth birthday and then every ten years.
Children who have had a life-threatening allergic reaction to Td, DTaP, DTP or DT may not be able to receive this vaccine.
Mild problems and side effects that can occur after receiving the Td vaccine include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. Very rarely your child may develop a serious allergic reaction or a deep, aching pain and muscle wasting in the upper arm.
