Thrush
|
Thrush is a common infection in infants and it is caused by the Candida yeast. It causes a white coating inside the mouth, and unlike formula or breast milk, the white coating can not be easily removed and it doesn't go away between feedings. Thrush usually does not cause any discomfort or feeding problems, but your should call your doctor to receive a medication to treat it (Nystatin), because it will probably not go away on its own. Continue the medicine until two days after the infection has cleared up. Persistent cases may need treatment with another medication called Diflucan (Fluconazole). Gentian violet is an older treatment that is not used much anymore.
